Wolfenstein: The Old Blood Game Database

Achieving a preselected set of goals unlocks perks including more health and larger ammo clips. Once the war is won, players can replay battles from the story in score based challenges. Secret environments are littered around each stage with hidden items such as gold, maps and even dream sequences taking place in the original Wolfenstein 3D.

It’s still a game in which it feels really nice to murder people with guns. Taking place during the late ‘40s, The Old Blood once again places you in the blood-soaked boots of B.J. Blazkowicz, back before he saved the world from Deathshead’s alternate-history evil. The story this time around has you infiltrating mountainside fortresses, escaping Nazi prisons, and fighting waves of zombies, but nothing about the story ever really felt memorable.

But with Wolfenstein, hey we know what’s coming Kaisar138 Slot and that is part of the charm. There’s also the “nightmare levels” as well, mazelike stages styled after old-school Wolfenstein which have you running around, collecting piles of silver and hunting for a key. These are unlocked by sleeping in a specific bed in each level, and while I may not have found all of them, they were a nice distraction.

Halo: Combat Evolved

Beyond Castle Wolfenstein was the second and final title developed and published by Muse Software, and was released in 1984. After the death of the original designer of the program,[45] the widow of Silas Warner released a ported version of the game, as well as its reconstructed source code in his honor in 2004. The game progression is a lot more akin to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, as you are never suddenly whisked back to base to receive new orders. Part One focuses on Rudi Jäger and his dogs, while Part Two shifts towards Helga von Schabbs, her SS Paranormal Division, and why they’re breaking into ancient catacombs (it’s zombies, by the way). I doubt The Old Blood will get the credit it deserves, but the level design throughout is brilliant.

In a mission to investigate the Paranormal Division of the Axis military, William “B.J.” Blazkowicz is captured and held prisoner in The Tower. He escapes the enemy forces, and sets himself to stop them and their operation that involves supernatural activities once and for all, infiltrating Castle Wolfenstein to continue his escapade deep inside. Agent One is killed during the interrogation, while Blazkowicz escapes custody, fighting his way out of the castle. After the Nazis apprehend an American spy, William “B.J.” Blazkowicz, who was sent to sabotage the enemy’s regime and foil their schemes, they imprison him under the grounds of Castle Wolfenstein.

More was expected of the developers in that regard because they have shown that they are well able to come up with their own stuff – well, you can make the argument that killed soldiers instantly turning into zombies was somewhat of an innovation but really, no. Then again, it’s probably good that it is out the system now never to return. That was about the most shocking moment in The Old Blood if I am totally honest because who cares about slaughtering Nazis by the thousands? And I mean thousands, the final kill count stood at a proud 1129 dead Nazis. Those bastards are probably the only guys in PC gaming history that can be murdered without remorse by anyone without causing any kind of controversy. No wonder that MachineGames often try to build in scenes that, would it be a different game, could cause somewhat of a backlash.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Now some people loved the storyline of The New Order, and found B.J’s interactions with the resistance cinematic and emotionally engaging. Others, however, found the shifts in tone awkward; one minute you’re cackling away at B.J’s brainless, mildly-sadistic Nazi bashing, the next you’re supposed to be empathizing with his war-ravaged comrades. It was as if MachineGames couldn’t work out whether they were trying to make Inglourious Bastards, a B-Movie sci-fi flick or a sensitive wartime drama, and so tried to make all three at once. That’s about as close to new gameplay as The Old Blood gets, and it even jettisons some aspects of The New Order, replacing the old upgrades system with a more lightweight series of unlockable perks. It has some mild upgrades over The New Order, but everything else about it just irks me.

It is very much an “old-school” game in a sense that it is focused on single player narrative, with carefully crafted levels and simple yet satisfying gameplay. The gunplay in this game is excellent – weapons look, sound and feel like powerful tools, and enemies react to it accordingly. Many also praise the story – its surprisingly well written and revolves around an interesting alternative history scenario. It is a prequel to TNO, taking place in 1946 rather than 1960, so the war isn’t over yet. Once again the gunplay is excellent, and I found the 1946 weapons feeling even better than their 1960 counterparts. There is not as much focus on the narrative as in the previous game, but it works out in this games favor as it is designed to have more uninterrupted action.

Overhearing conversations between Nazis about how “they don’t feel that this is the right thing to do” adds much more character to the game’s world than an entire briefcase full of letters ever could, and I cannot defend this sort of storytelling. Instead of traveling across the planet (and to the moon, even), The Old Blood attempts to bring a swell of nostalgia to gamers. The game is cleanly split into two parts, the first centering around Castle Wolfenstein, and the second, in the town of Wulfburg. Your objective is to sneak into Castle Wolfenstein and retrieve a folder that contains the location of Dr. Deathshead’s doom-fortress. Throughout it all, you play as series mainstay William “B.J.” Blazkowicz, helped along the way by a handful of side characters. There is little doubt that Grand Theft Auto VI will be the biggest game of 2026, and potentially the biggest entertainment release of the year. With Rockstar finally set to launch it on November 19, the gaming world has spent years waiting for Vice City to make its return, and I’m no different. But the more games I’ve played this year, and the more I look at what’s still coming, the more I think we’re viewing 2026 through the wrong lens.

If that’s (still) your poison, you can’t go far wrong with this. As far as Wolfenstein as a whole goes, The New Order is two steps forwards and The Old Blood one step back, and that’s enough to leave me excited about whatever Machine Games have planned next. I hope they take a couple of years over it though, because I really need a break from trying to spell ‘Blazkowicz’ right.
